Irving ISD (School Locator Tool) has a variety of schools across Irving and Las Colinas. So kids can attend the one that is closest to their home. It’s also a good choice because it has many bilingual programs, including two-way dual language programs.
The two-way dual language program is perfect for both native Spanish speakers and native English speakers. We will focus mainly on the two-way dual language program because it’s the best for Spanish learning.

Irving ISD Two-Way Dual Language Immersion Program
Irving ISD’s two-way dual language program is for both Spanish and English learners. Students have 50 percent of the classes in Spanish, and 50 percent in English, and the classrooms are combined to include both native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.
From Pre-K 4 to the first semester of first grade, students will receive AB Day instruction. This means that one day (also known as A Day) they’ll take the classes in Spanish. And the next day (also known as B Day) they’ll take the classes in English.
During the second semester of the first grade, students will receive AA BB Day instruction. This means that they’ll take classes in Spanish for two days (also known as AA Days). And the next two days (also known as BB Days) they’ll take them in English.
From second to fifth grade, students will receive AB Week instruction. This means that they’ll take classes in Spanish for one week (also known as A Week). And the next week (also known as B Week) they’ll take classes in English.
Throughout PK4 they’ll take subjects such as Story Time, Literacy Circle, Math Circle, Science and Social Studies Circle, and more.
Kindergarten and first-grade kids will take classes such as Social Studies, Science, and Math.
Some of the subjects from second to fifth grade include Spanish Language Arts (SLAR), Social Studies, and Science.
Not all of Irving ISD’s schools have a two-way dual language program. But if your kids’ school has it, they can enroll in it. Their acceptance depends on the availability of the program. If your kids are not in a school that offers this program, you can apply to transfer to one that does.

Brandenburg Elementary School
Brandenburg Elementary School offers a two-way dual language program. They want students to become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. According to their website, their students will get many benefits from their dual language programs, including better diversity appreciation and more career opportunities. They have bilingual and ESL-certified teachers.
Brandenburg ES currently offers the program from K to 5th grade. Apart from native English speakers and native Spanish speakers, speakers of other languages can be a part of the program. But they have to commit to being a part of this program long-term. The program begins in kindergarten or first grade.
Their school is very diverse, the minority student enrollment is 93.2%. Of the minority students enrolled, 83.7% of them are Hispanic/Latino students, according to U.S. News & World Report. This means that it’s a great school for your children to become bilingual. They’ll be able to practice Spanish not only in class but also with their friends.
It is the #7 elementary school in Irving ISD, according to U.S. News & World Report. And it’s rated 4.6 stars on Niche and 4.4 stars on Google.
Farine Elementary School
Farine Elementary School offers a two-way immersion program. They use a 50/50 model. This means that 50% of instruction is in Spanish and 50% in English. The students learn how to read and write in both languages. Their teachers are bilingual and ESL certified. The program starts in Kindergarten or first grade, and you can learn more about how to enroll on their site.
They have an 91.4% minority enrollment, and 65% are Hispanic/Latino, according to the U.S. News & World Report. Thomas Haley Elementary School
Thomas Haley Elementary’s mission is: “We pledge to motivate, support, and inspire our Horned Frogs, by providing them with the tools needed to become lifelong learners and achievers!” Their vision statement is: “Learning today…leading tomorrow”.
Thomas Haley Elementary School offers a two-way dual language program in grades 4-5. Plus, they have a 94.7% of minority enrollment, of which 44.7% is Hispanic/Latino, according to U.S. News & World Report. Many students that attend this school know Spanish. This means your kids might be able to make international friends with whom to practice their Spanish. This is great because, in order to become truly fluent in Spanish, kids need to learn vocabulary beyond classroom subjects.

Travis Middle School offers a Two-Way Dual Language Program designed to help students continue developing strong skills in both English and Spanish. As part of this pathway, students strengthen their bilingualism and biliteracy while preparing for advanced academic opportunities in high school. The program lays a foundation for future participation in honors and AP courses, allowing students to earn high school and even college credit. Students who remain on this path are working toward earning Irving ISD’s Dual Language Letter of Completion and future recognition for achievement in bilingualism and biliteracy.
Travis Middle School’s minority enrollment is 90.6%, of which 72.3% is Hispanic/Latino, according to U.S. News & World Report. It’s also U.S. News & World Report’s 2nd best Irving ISD middle school. And it’s been rated by Niche as an A- for diversity with an overall grade of B-. .

MacArthur High School
MacArthur High School’s mission is: “…to meet the needs of culturally diverse students who will be equipped to become productive citizens and critical thinkers in a global society. MacArthur High School was named after General Douglas MacArthur and opened in 1963. Graduates of the program earn the Irving ISD Dual Language Letter of Completion, a distinction valued by colleges and employers. de Zavala Middle School
de Zavala Middle School seeks to inspire creativity and critical thinking in their students. They have a National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) chapter which is a national organization that recognizes students’ leadership and academic achievements.
The school also features a STEM Academy for students pursuing a future with a dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education.
The school also has an extensive athletic department. Kids can participate in sports such as men’s and women’s basketball, track & field, and women’s volleyball.
It is the best Irving ISD middle school, according to U.S. News & World Report. And they have 84.9% of Hispanic/Latino students, as stated by the U.S. News & World Report. So, even if they don’t have a dual language program, your kids can learn Spanish with their friends and international classmates.

Austin Middle School
Austin Middle School is not part of the dual language program. But it does have an English as a Second Language Pull-Out Model for English learners. This program goes from 6th to 12th grade.
They have extracurricular activities, such as a Destination Imagination club, anime club STEM club, orchestra, choir, and a band. They also have an athletic department, where they offer sports like men and women’s soccer, basketball, and track & field.
They have 95.4% of minority enrollment, and 89.1% of Hispanic/Latino students, according to U.S. News & World Report. This makes it a very diverse school, perfect to make Spanish-speaking friends.

New Age Montessori
New Age Montessori is a preschool that has the goal of helping children become confident and independent. They have toddler, transition, primary, kindergarten, after-school programs, and summer camps. Their curriculum is varied; it has subjects that will help them grow academically and personally.
They have different “learning areas”, including language arts, sensorial, practical life, and math.
New Age Montessori’s curriculum also has Enrichment programs, which cover the areas of yoga, music, Spanish, and more. They teach the Spanish language through fun things and activities, like songs. Heartland Montessori Academy has two Infant Programs for babies 6 weeks to 12 months and from 12 to 18 months. They also offer a Toddler Program, a Transitional Program, and a Primary Program. Their goal is to develop independent learners and responsible individuals through encouraging curiosity with love.
They have different classes, like math, Exercise of Practical Life, language, and more. They also offer Enrichment Programs, including one for Spanish.
In their summer programs, they have different theme camps, including a Spanish one.

Kids are full of energy and curiosity, so the best way for them to learn a new language is while having fun. That’s what TruFluency Kids’ Spanish Immersion Program aims to do.
The environment is kind and the classes are very dynamic. We have the kids singing Spanish songs, making food, playing word games, and speaking Spanish phrases to achieve fluency.
