Mt. Diablo USD Dual Language Immersion Program
MDUSD’S English learner services department has the mission to provide rich, meaningful, and highly effective programs for English Learners that ensure all students’ success. They are committed to fostering and developing cultural proficiency and value the home language, empowering parents to look for an exceptional instructional program for their children.
The Two-Way Bilingual program has a goal to develop academic language proficiency in English and Spanish, mastering grade level core standards while children become bilingual. This immersion program includes students from TK to 8th grade. Two-way programs include English and Spanish, and bilingual English-Spanish speakers. They also have some developmental programs that include Spanish-dominant students. Students in all programs receive instruction in both languages.
Students enrolled in this type of program enjoy many benefits of becoming bilingual, among these, are Increased mental flexibility and stronger problem-solving skills, easier acquisition of a third language later in their lives, higher scores on verbal standardized English tests, maintaining a strong sense of their own identity while getting more sensitive towards other cultures and getting a headstart in competition for universities and jobs in a global economy.

Bancroft Elementary School
Bancroft Elementary School is committed to providing caring and safe learning environments for children, these environments educate their minds along and encourage the hearts and spirits of their students. The staff provides a challenging and powerful curriculum. Also, they have instructional activities designed to meet the educational needs of students.
In this school, the communication between home and school is very valued which means that you’ll always be very well informed regarding your child’s education process through newsletters, emails, phone calls, and progress reports made by the teachers.
The Two-way Dual Immersion Program at Bancroft Elementary is a K-5 program that includes English and Spanish- dominant speakers. Students receive instruction in both languages starting in kindergarten with 50% percent of the instruction in Spanish and the other 50% in English. In every grade level K-5 there are two teachers and each of them models one language: English or Spanish. Students that finish 5th grade in the TWDI program, have the opportunity to continue participating in a dual language program at the Holbrook Language Academy.

Ygnacio Valley Elementary School
Ygnacio Valley Elementary School claims to be the hidden gem of the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. The staff is exemplary in their vision of student achievement and collaboration. YVE has celebrated continued growth on the Academic Progress Index (API) over the past 7 years.
They also have a unique kindergarten program because they provide an extended Kindergarten day. This allows YVE to offer plenty of time to master the standards that are foundational to lifelong learning while still making time for children to have activities that foster their creativity and socialization. Also, YVES has the C.A.R.E.S after-school program which provides students with homework help time, enrichment activities, and health and nutrition programs through a free after-school program.

Meadow Homes Elementary School

“I love Meadow Homes Elementary School. The teachers and staff are great. Everyone is very kind and super helpful. Safety for the students is also a huge priority. Lots of remodeling is being done to improve the school and new gates were added for safety and to help ensure that we can all keep socially distancing.
Backpacks with lots of supplies and gift cards for all of the students were provided at the beginning of the year from office depot.
They have a great music department with lots of instruments to lend out. My daughter learned how to play the ukulele and the violin and now is trying the trombone. She was also previously in choir.
Their breakfast and lunches are very tasty and healthy. They are involved in lots of sports and have also teamed up to participate in girls on the run. They have great after school activities varying from after school care to kids club through a local church and this school is very diverse and observes many different holidays.”
Holbrook Language Academy
Holbrook Language Academy is a Magnet school that was recently reopened in Concord, CA (Jan, 2023). If your children finish in grades K-5 they are allowed to continue their Dual language program in this school.
Holbrook Language Academy offers a Two-way Dual immersion program starting in Kindergarten. They follow a 50/50 model where students spend 50% percent of their day writing and reading in Spanish and the other half in English through their K-8 years.
Holbrook Language Academy has an overall B- grade in Niche.

This School developed its own Spanish Preschool and Kindergarten Immersion Program. They have instruction 100% in Spanish and their curriculum is appropriate for every age.
