MDUSD’S English learner services department has the mission to provide rich, meaningful, and highly effective programs for English Learners that ensure all students’ success. They are committed to fostering and developing cultural proficiency and value the home language, empowering parents to look for an exceptional instructional program for their children.

The Two-Way Bilingual program has a goal to develop academic language proficiency in English and Spanish, mastering grade level core standards while children become bilingual. This immersion program includes students from TK to 8th grade. Two-way programs include English and Spanish, and bilingual English-Spanish speakers. They also have some developmental programs that include Spanish-dominant students. Students in all programs receive instruction in both languages.

The Two-way Dual Immersion Program at Bancroft Elementary is a K-5 program that includes English and Spanish- dominant speakers. In every grade level K-5 there are two teachers and each of them models one language: English or Spanish. “I love Meadow Homes Elementary School. The teachers and staff are great. Everyone is very kind and super helpful. Safety for the students is also a huge priority. Lots of remodeling is being done to improve the school and new gates were added for safety and to help ensure that we can all keep socially distancing.

Backpacks with lots of supplies and gift cards for all of the students were provided at the beginning of the year from office depot.

They have a great music department with lots of instruments to lend out. My daughter learned how to play the ukulele and the violin and now is trying the trombone. She was also previously in choir.

Their breakfast and lunches are very tasty and healthy. They are involved in lots of sports and have also teamed up to participate in girls on the run. They have great after school activities varying from after school care to kids club through a local church and this school is very diverse and observes many different holidays.”

Holbrook Language Academy is a Magnet school that was recently reopened in Concord, CA (Jan, 2023). If your children finish in grades K-5 they are allowed to continue their Dual language program in this school.

Holbrook Language Academy offers a Two-way Dual immersion program starting in Kindergarten. They follow a 50/50 model where students spend 50% percent of their day writing and reading in Spanish and the other half in English through their K-8 years.
