Micah
Hey everyone, Micah here with Alex.

Alex
Hello. Hola, Hola.

Micah
TruFluency Kids Spanish Immersion and we are here teaching a weekly Spanish phrase to parents because this how we fight for our kids’ bilingualism. We have to get involved as well and help as much as we can. Umm, so what question word are we gonna learn today, Alex?

Spanish Phrase – How to say “When” in Spanish: Cuándo

Alex
Very short one. Cuándo.

Micah
Cuándo. Can you talk about…you just told me that your husband often pronounces this incorrectly because of the tongue position. Tell us about that.

Alex
It’s cuan-tho. He says cuan-to and cuanto means how much.

Micah
Okay. Okay.

Alex
It’s cuan-tho. Cuan-tho.

Micah
Okay. So to make the “d” in Spanish for our English speakers you really should touch the tongue to the bottom of the top teeth -tho -tho -tho. It’s almost like “th” except it’s a hard sound. It’s not air. So in English, you’d say -th -th -th but in Spanish, you say -tho -tho -tho cuan-tho. Don’t put your tongue inside cuz it’s gonna get mixed up with another word. If you say cuanto it kinda sounds like a “t” in Spanish and that means another word. So cuándo – when.

I’m gonna ask Alex some questions and she’s gonna give me some example answers and then the second time we’d love for you to do it with us. Okay. Alex, cuándo es la fiesta?

Alex
Es el Martes. It is on Tuesday.

Micah
Okay. ¿Cuándo es tu cumple?

Alex
Es el veinte de Noviembre.

Micah
Ahh it’s her birthday. Very good. ¿Cuándo es el examen?

Alex
Es manana. It is tomorrow.

Micah
Oh no. I gotta get studying. Okay. Last one. cuándo nos vamos? When are we leaving?

Alex
En veinte minutos.

Micah
In 20 minutes. Okay parents, do it with us this time. The first one is when is the party. It’s on Tuesday. I’m gonna ask Alex again. ¿Cuándo es la fiesta?

Alex
Es el Martes.

Micah
Okay. When is your birthday? ¿Cuándo es tu cumple?

Alex
Es el dos de Abril.

Micah
Nice. April 2. Next one is when is the test. ¿Cuándo es el examen?

Alex
Es mañana.

Micah
It’s tomorrow. And the last one – when are we leaving. ¿Cuándo nos vamos?

Alex
En veinte minutos.

Micah
Veinte minutos. 20 minutes. Okay, guys. Repeat the video again and if you wanna practice with your kids. Umm, and if you have any questions about specific responses ask us below and we will respond. See you next week for the next weekly Spanish phrase!
