Kids are constantly exploring and getting to know the world around them. This includes the names of the things they see and the people they belong to. Their friend’s house, their brother’s toys, their own candies…

That’s why one of the most important phrases they learn during childhood is “it’s mine”. So, they learn which things belong to them.

Let’s be honest, sometimes our kids even fight with each other using this phrase. This is because they’re trying to figure out which item belongs to whom. After all, they’re also learning to share, right?

If you’re teaching your kids Spanish, they should also learn this phrase. It’s a basic one! That’s exactly what we’ve been doing at TruFluency Kids Spanish lessons.

“¡Es Mío!” (It’s mine!) Chapter 2

For this new Spanish course, we’re reading an original Spanish story for Spanish learners from TruFluency Kids titled “¡Es mío!”. What is this Spanish book about?

“¡Es mío!” is about two monkeys who discover a suitcase and start fighting over which of them is the owner of the things inside the suitcase. More animals will join to reclaim the objects for themselves using possessive adjectives.

Here’s the first page of the first chapter for levels 1.1 to 1.2, with the keywords and most used phrases in bold:

  • Monita y Monito comen frutas en la selva. / Little monkey girl and little monkey boy eat fruits in the jungle.
  • Monito dice: Mira, hermana, mi papaya está grande y rica. ¿Cómo está tu mango? / Little monkey boy says: Look, sister, my papaya is big and delicious. How is your mango?
  • Monita dice: Mi mango está rico y dulce. ¿Tu papaya está dulce? / Little monkey girl says: My mango is delicious and sweet. Is your papaya sweet?
  • Monito dice: , mi papaya está dulce. / Little monkey boy says: Yes, my papaya is sweet.

Spanish Activity for Class

During our Spanish classes we do different activities for kids to reinforce what they’ve learned through the Spanish story.

One of the main activities after reading the first chapter is asking questions about the story.

We’ll show kids some slides with pictures related to the story they read in class some minutes ago. Kids must answer in Spanish, so they start practicing their reading comprehension, speaking skills, and the topic of the class.

Here’s an example of a question we asked the kids after reading the first chapter. As well as one of the answers children’s had to give:

  • ¿Tu papaya está dulce? – Is your papaya sweet?
  • Mi papaya está rica – My papaya is sweet.

The students will also be able to ask the questions. So, they can also learn how to ask things in Spanish. After all, a Spanish Q & A will allow them to practice and improve their conversation skills.

What Do Our Kids’ Spanish Classes Include?

This was just a small sneak peak of what we do in our online Spanish classes for kids. But there’s more!

Our curriculum comes with super helpful tools that will help your kids learn better and while having more fun:

  • A Spanish Interactive StoryTelling Book to read at home. This is very useful, because stories are a great way to remember new words and phrases. As well as to get kids talking about what happened!
  • A song to help solidify the vocabulary and phrases in a fun and memorable way
  • Live classes to practice speaking in real conversations (if you’re interested)
