When learning Spanish as a second language kids can get confused at times. It’s not an easy task. Especially when learning the correct Spanish grammar. A lot of times they can get the Spanish sentence structure mixed. Maybe because they’re thinking in their mother tongue.
The level of difficulty adds up when it’s time to speak in Spanish. They have to use the correct order of the sentences while being fluent. It can be tough! But it is possible!
In fact, in this week’s TruFluency Kids online Spanish lessons, we’ve been working with our students on reinforcing the correct structure of Spanish sentences. Especially while speaking. So they truly learn it until it feels natural for them.
Here’s a sneak peek from our latest Spanish course.
“El niño nuevo” (The new kid) Chapter 2
This new week in the TruFluency Kids Spanish class we learned by reading the second chapter of our original Spanish book titled “El niño nuevo”. Here’s the first page of the second chapter of this story for Spanish learners. All the keywords and most used phrases are in bold:
- La clase de español de la maestra Luz empieza. / The Spanish class of the teacher Luz starts.
- La maestra Luz dice: Niños, prepárense, vamos a practicar la siguiente lección de español. / The teacher Luz says: Kids, get ready, let’s practice the next Spanish lesson.
- Los niños dicen: ¡Sí, maestra! / The kids say: Yes, teacher!
- Un niño dice: Maestra, sí. / One kid says: Teacher, yes.
Ask a Spanish Question to Your Kids to Practice Speaking Spanish
Something our native Spanish speaking teachers always do is ask questions in Spanish to the students. This way, kids practice the language, and they don’t simply memorize a list of Spanish vocabulary.
We recommend you do the same. You can ask questions about the storybook, so your kids start using their Spanish knowledge at home.
Here’s an example from our PDF for parents about the current “El niño nuevo” Spanish curriculum for week 2:
- ¿Los niños van a practicar español? = Are the children going to practice Spanish?
- Sí, los niños van a practicar. = Yes, the kids are going to practice.
Remember that kids must answer in complete sentences, as that’s key to gaining confidence in fluency. You must not accept yes or no answers, nor single word answers like “¿Los niños van a practicar español?” “Sí”. The answer should be a full Spanish sentence, like “Sí, los niños van a practicar”.
Give Your Child the Gift of Spanish!
What Do Our Kids’ Spanish Classes Include?
